Housing Allowance
Young people can access a Home Stretch WA Housing Allowance to help make a wider range of living options more affordable. Transition Coaches support them in planning for housing, exploring options, preparing applications, and providing reassurance and guidance throughout the process.
- Ensure young people are empowered to explore and make choices about their living arrangements.
- Identify and Explore Housing options that are safe, stable and affordable.
- Ensure young people understand they must be engaged with a Transition Coach to access the payment.
- Ensure Housing Allowance Applications are completed in full, including a budget and housing pathway plan
- Ensure young people can afford the living arrangement and are responsible for their own costs.
- Clearly communicate the conditions and agreement that underpins payment of the Housing Allowance and regular reviews are conducted.
- Ensure the Housing Allowance is not used to subsidise already subsidised housing programs.
Supporting a Young Person in finding and applying for housing is a significant and potentially overwhelming step. With empathetic guidance, clear structure, and consistent encouragement, Transition Coaches can empower Young People to take positive steps toward securing independent housing.
